Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend: Disneyland Day 1

I am going a little bit our of order from my last post about spectating the 5k on Saturday. Our first actual day in Disneyland was Friday. Since we went to the expo and couldn't check into our hotel till three, we didn't end up getting to the parks until about five. That meant getting amazing sunset pictures of the castle!

As we were finding a place to have dinner, we went through the Fantasy Faire. This is a new addition to Fantasyland and I had never been to it before. I loved Rapunzel's little tower and the Flynn Rider wanted signs!

After we ate, it was time to go on some rides! We let Alexandra and my mom choose the first ride since they would have to head back early for the 5k. They decided to go on....Splash Mountain! The line was pretty long, but it was so hot and extremely humid that the line was worth it. It almost felt like we were in Disney World with all of the humidity throughout the weekend. It was pretty bad.

My pose was supposed to be a spellout of the number 13 since that's how many miles I was going to run. I totally failed. I even tried it on California Screamin' and Space Mountain and it failed on those rides as well. But you get what I was going for right...?

Next, we went back to Main Street and got some dessert. We found these amazing cake pops that were HUGE! They put Starbucks cake pops to shame. My mom and Brad got chocolate cake covered in chocolate. I didn't think I could take that much chocolate so I got white cake covered in chocolate with white chocolate drizzle. So yum!
Definitely getting this on my next trip.So good.
Mom and Lex headed back after dessert while me and Brad hit up a couple more rides including Space Mountain, Pirates, Matterhorn, and TeaCups.
Yup. There it is again. The failed 13.
We were exhausted ourselves and headed back a little bit before the park closed. We did a lot for only being in the park for a few hours. It was such a fun evening :)

June Lookback // July Goals

Alright. Confession time. June was absolutely horrible. I failed on all of my goals. It was very bad that I won't even look back. I don't want to. I just can't.

Anywho, hopefully July will be lots better since I am actually good with training. Realizing that I will have to run two half marathons within a month of each other is really pushing me to train. I've been running throughout these first few days of July. Started out with two miles everyday and then today I kicked it up to three. Hopefully next week I can bring it up to four and so on throughout the weeks ahead. These are my main goals throughout July:

1. Stretch: I know this was one of my June goals, but I don't think I ever did it once and that's why I got calf cramps. I realized that I need to stretch before and after my runs, that way I am not begging to stretch during my runs once I get cramps. Had to learn that the hard way.

2. Eat better things for running: This is kind of the same as eating healthier, but I really want it to focus on my running. Such as eating bananas to help my calf cramps or drinking Gatorade to gain more electrolytes.

3. Run 5-6 miles: I really need to kick up the training. I am extremely behind and it's making me very nervous. I most likely won't be ready on race day, but it is crucial that I am running at LEAST 5 miles by the end of the month. It is definitely doable since I am running 3 miles right now.

So there you have it. My July goals. I'm hoping I can do a lot better than my June goals.

NIKE

So, it's official. I got into the Nike Women's half marathon! I received this amazing email as soon as I got back from Hume Lake:
I have to admit, I was completely surprised. I went into this thinking that I wasn't going to get in. I thought I wasn't going to have to keep training after Disneyland half but it looks like I am. And with hills. Ugh. The dreaded hills. I have no idea how I will even try and train for those. I know I have to and I know that somehow, some way, I will conquer those San Francisco hills!

I'm so happy to be sharing this news with you guys and I am glad I can share my journey on this blog. Happy running :)
October 20th here I come!

Back On Track...Maybe

Happy Sunday! As some of you may know, I hurt may back about a month ago and couldn't run for about a week and a half. Well, right after that, I got really sick and was like that for about two and a half weeks. It was just one thing after another! So frustrating since I couldn't train. I just started training this past week and it was way harder than I thought it would be. I completely lost all of my stamina that I had stored up. On my first run I was nearing 1.5 miles and I was so exhausted and just wanted to stop. I felt horrible: physically and mentally. I kept thinking about that half marathon coming up and how I am just back to square one. So it's been pretty tough. Hopefully I can build back my stamina and continue building up my mileage. As for now, I am only running about 2 miles to try and get back on track.

My photo from the other day wasn't loading, so I used this picture from February which is pretty much the same as my pace now. Now, I just have to keep my goal in mind and keep running. Eventually, I will build my mileage and stamina, I just have to work for it. I hope everyone has an amazing day :)
